Blue Creek Rice Mill is a family-owned milling company operating in El Campo, Texas. Our story originated many years ago in Waller County. Great- Great Grandpa Beckendorff began farming rice in the late 1930’s on the Katy prairie. As years passed each generation continued farming, some branching out on their own, while others continued to farm the family land. In 2013, Johnny Colvin, a 5th generation farmer, was given an opportunity to continue the family legacy and began his own farming business. With his own children showing an interest in agriculture, Johnny knew the importance of carrying on the family tradition. As Katy and the surrounding farmland areas began to develop, the family made the move in 2014 purchasing land in a less developed area, Matagorda County. This land opened an opportunity for Johnny and his sister, Tracy Redding, to continue the Judy Beckendorff Shield’s family legacy. In 2021, the family purchased additional land in Wharton County that now houses the Blue Creek Rice Mill headquarters. Our family farm has now expanded to include storing, milling, and selling our own long grain varieties of rice. The addition of milling and selling our own rice equips the next generation to continue the family legacy and serves as a reminder of why we do what we do. We farm to feed America.
